Per secoli l’artigianato è stato un’attività fondamentale per la prosperità di famiglie e società. Oggi più di qualcuno lo addita come sorpassato, a volte anche come mera attività antistress per il tempo libero. In realtà, però, nella scala della qualità, l’artigianato è ancora posizionato al vertice, e molto probabilmente sempre lo sarà. Questo perché, in fondo, nessuna macchina può imitare la creatività dell’uomo e la sua risposta alle problematiche impreviste, così come non può imitarne quella cura e quell’attenzione che ne rendono le creazioni peculiari ed uniche.

Per questo motivo, e per una personale passione per le attività manuali, ho pensato di dedicare una sezione alla riscoperta di questa arte millenaria, ai suoi colori ed alle sue variegate sfaccettature. Con particolare attenzione all’Italia, che ne rappresenta molto bene le virtù grazie al suo tessuto imprenditoriale composto, per la stragrande maggioranza, da piccole e medie imprese di qualità che resistono imperterrite alle crisi e che, bisogna ricordarlo, hanno salvato più volte il bel Paese, ma senza ovviamente tralasciare la bellezza dell’artigianato locale in giro per il mondo; e senza dimenticare la soddisfazione di tenere in mano o indossare quei piccoli capolavori fatti con le proprie mani.

Rediscovering Our Creativity

Handicraft has been fundamental to ensure prosperity for both families and societies over many centuries. However, nowadays many people consider it outdated, sometimes even reducing it to a mere stress-relieving hobby. Nevertheless, as a matter of fact handicraft is still on top in quality assessment, and probably it’ll be always on top because any kind of machine can reproduce neither human creativity nor human response to unforeseen problems. Besides, in fact any machine can reproduce the care and the originality which make handicraft unique.

For that reason, and having a personal passion for arts and crafts, I thought it could have been interesting trying to rediscover this multi-coloured ancient art, giving special attention to Italy because of its being leader in craftmanship (thanks to its well-known business landscape made up mainly of high quality small- and medium-sized enterprises which have standed up to crisis and wars thus saving the Italian economy several times), but without forgetting the beauty of craftmanship all over the world.

Remember the pleasure to hold and wear little but precious handmade masterpeace, especially when we made them with our own hands.
